SAVI® Trainer Certification Program

 

SAVI® Communications has created a training and certification program for those interested in learning to teach SAVI to others. The training steps leading to these certifications have come from observing, helping, and training people who have developed SAVI skills over the years.   They are flexible, can be adapted to your situation and can include equivalent workshops or training experiences to those listed here.

Training Sequence

 

MODULE 1 ACTIVITIES: LEARNING SAVI®

1A. SAVI® Having Conversations that Work (2 days)

Introduction to method, theory, and practice

Learning goals:

  • Understand the essentials of the SAVI® model and the organization of the SAVI® Grid
  • Learn to “map” communication and separate behavior from intention or motivation
  • Begin learning about “alerts” and intervention

1B. SAVI® Having Conversations that Work Better (2 days)

In-depth focus on common communication problem “alerts” and ways to shift to clear communication

Learning goals:

  • Develop detailed knowledge of grid: column, row, square, and category
  • Increase fluency in recognizing behaviors from live dialogue
  • Increase ability to recognize major common alerts and their triggers on one’s self
  • Develop skills in undoing those alerts
  • Develop the ability to influence communication patterns

1C. Practice in SAVI®  Ongoing practice through phone seminars  (variable time frames)

Learning goals:

  • Develop greater fluency in identifying verbal behaviors, locating them in the SAVI® Grid, and planning for intervention

MODULE 2 ACTIVITES: EXPLORING SAVI® IN DEPTH

2A. Seeing Patterns, Not People (variable time frames)

Learning goals:  

  • Learn to identify common patterns of communication in a system and the effects of the   pattern on morale and productivity
  • Learn to use the pattern as information about the system and plan intervention

2B. SAVI® as a Diagnostic Tool (2 days)

Learning goals:

  • Explore the flow through the SAVI® Grid from red/yellow to yellow/green
  • Widen the range of “alert” recognition and change strategies 
  • Examine SAVI® as a tool for real-world change
  • Begin practice in training  others to undo Red Light patterns and to undo alerts that trigger others into Red Light behavior

2C. Ongoing SAVI® Application:  Ongoing practice through phone seminars (variable time frames)

Learning goals:

  • Develop greater skill in identifying verbal behaviors, locating them in the SAVI® Grid, and planning for intervention

Module 3 Activities: Integration and Teaching SAVI®

3A. SAVI® Theory, Coding, Teaching (2 days)

Prerequisites: Completion of Module 1 and Module 2 requirements

Learning goals:

  • Grasp of theory underlying SAVI;
  • Connect theory to system patterns
  • In-depth skill in recognizing (coding) and producing behaviors
  • Teaching SAVI: workshop leadership

3B. Trainers Training (2–4 days)

Prerequisites: Completion of Module 1 and Module 2 requirements, plus Module 3A

  • Training options: Advanced Training to Teach SAVI®

3C. Self Study Units: SAVI® Coding Practice and Assigned Readings

Prerequisites: Completion of  Module 1 requirements

3D. Co-Leading Experiences with SAVI® Trainer

Prerequisites: Completion of preceding requirements
