SAVI® Materials License
The SAVI Materials License enables you to purchase electronic files for specified copyrighted SAVI materials and then to reproduce those materials without additional permission (provided that the appropriate Per Use fees are paid; see below). These materials include:
- SAVI Grids
- SAVI Definitions
- Introduction to SAVI theory paper
- Template for the Basic SAVI Workshop Manual
This license also allows you to resell materials at a profit.
Who is eligible to buy a SAVI Materials License?
Individuals who have completed SAVI Training Module 2 or equivalent, with permission of the instructor. Certified SAVI Trainers automatically qualify for a Materials License.
What are the fees associated with a SAVI Materials License?
- Annual Fee: $500 (waived for Certified SAVI Trainers)
- Per Use Fee: $10 per participant per event for use of specified materials (Grids, Definitions, etc.).
Both annual and per-use fees are paid directly to Anita Simon.
Does a Materials License enable you to resell SAVI materials at a profit?
Yes. If you have a Materials License and have paid the Per Use fees for a certain number of clients, you may resell the SAVI materials to those clients at a higher cost.
Whom do I contact to obtain a Materials License?
Contact Anita Simon, by phone (717-695-6719) or email.

Duplicating SAVI® Materials
Buying SAVI® Materials
Using SAVI® Materials with Others
Modifying SAVI® Materials
Translating SAVI® Materials
Duplicating SAVI® Materials
What are the requirements for duplicating SAVI materials?
1. Have a current Materials License.
2. Reproduce the Core SAVI materials (SAVI Grid, SAVI Definitions, and the Introduction to SAVI theory paper) as is — without any additions, deletions, or substitutions.
3. Include the SAVI copyright and trademark tag lines on all material. These should read as follows: “SAVI® is a registered trademark of Anita Simon and Yvonne Agazarian. Copyright © __________ [same date and name as on original materials].”
4. If you are using the materials with clients or as part of a training, pay the appropriate number of Per Use fees, as outlined in the Materials License.
Buying SAVI® Materials
How can individuals who do not have a Materials License obtain SAVI materials?
Individuals who have completed a two-day introductory SAVI workshop are authorized to purchase Core SAVI materials (Grids, Definitions, and Introduction to SAVI theory paper) and the SAVI Squares Game. See ordering information here.
Using SAVI® Materials with Others
What training is required to offer a SAVI workshop or advertise as a SAVI Trainer?
Completion of the SAVI Trainer Certification Program.
What training is required to talk about SAVI to clients or students?
While only Certified Trainers are authorized to offer workshops on SAVI, we do encourage others who have received some training to talk about SAVI with their clients or students. We have found that people generally feel competent to talk effectively about SAVI concepts after taking two or three workshops. Individuals who have completed a two-day introductory SAVI workshop are authorized to purchase Core SAVI materials (Grids, Definitions, and Introduction to SAVI booklets) and the SAVI Squares Game to use with clients or students. See ordering information here.
Modifying SAVI® materials
May I make slight modifications to the SAVI Grid, Definitions, or Introduction to SAVI theory paper to suit my own clients or students?
No. No modifications are permitted to these materials for any reason.
May I modify the Basic SAVI Workshop Manual?
Yes, if you are a Certified SAVI Trainer. If you are not a Certified Trainer but have a Materials License, you may not change substantive content, but may adjust the examples to fit a particular context (e.g., putting in doctor-patient examples in a medical context).
May I develop new materials for use in my particular context?
Yes. If you have a Materials License, you may work directly with Anita Simon to develop substantively new materials based on SAVI. The final product must be approved in writing, and the copyright will become a joint property of yourself and Anita Simon. If these products are to be sold, the fee is to be negotiated before the beginning of development. Neither SAVI, Anita Simon, Yvonne Agazarian, nor their delegates bear fiscal responsibility for any development costs of the new materials you wish to develop.
The SAVI trademark will remain with Anita Simon and Yvonne Agazarian (or their delegate(s)).
May I be listed as an author of new SAVI materials I help develop?
Yes. With a Materials License, you may be listed as a co-author — along with the authors of the original SAVI materials from which you drew your information. For further information, contact Anita Simon.
Translating SAVI® Materials
May I make written translations of existing SAVI materials into my own language?
Yes, if you obtain written permission from Anita Simon and have had the requisite SAVI training: Basic SAVI training (at least one two-day workshop) for the Grid, and SAVI Training Module 2 for all other materials.
How do I request permission to translate the Grid into another language?
1. Translate the Grid from English into your native language.
2. When you believe the translation is accurate, give the translated Grid to two people who do not know SAVI, but speak both languages. Ask them to translate the new words on the grid back into English.
3. Send both people’s translations into English to Anita Simon, along with a copy of the translated grid.
The translation must bear the tag line “Derived and adapted with permission of the authors” and bear the copyright and trademark that was on the original material. Your translated version of the materials may be used in lieu of the English version. However, any use of translated SAVI materials — even use by the translator — must be paid for at the same rate as would be paid for the original English version. (See the guidelines for purchasing and reproducing SAVI materials.) A final copy of the translated material must be sent to Anita Simon and will remain the property of Anita Simon.
Can I purchase copies of materials translated into a foreign language?
Yes. If you want to buy already translated materials, you can either:
1. Go to www.SAVICommunications.com and when these become available, you may buy any translations listed there at the regular cost plus an additional 20% which goes to the original translator; or
2. You can approach the licensed person/company who has completed an approved SAVI translation and they can sell you the translation at the SAVI standard retail value plus an additional 20% to cover the cost of their work.
Any use of translated SAVI materials — even use by the translator — must be paid for at the same rate as would be paid for the original English version. (See the guidelines for purchasing and reproducing SAVI materials.)
Can I have exclusive rights to the translation I make into my native language?
No. Anyone who chooses can translate SAVI materials into their native language, if they follow the requirements described above. To cover your costs, you may add a 20% fee to the standard selling price for materials you have translated. |
